About Liver

Your liver health may not be top of mind, but the minute it malfunctions, you may be out of your mind!

Don’t Neglect Your Liver Health

The liver is the second-largest organ in your body, it performs a lot of critical jobs that keep you healthy, including processing food, storing and utilising nutrients, producing bile, supplying energy, removing all toxins and clearing medication from your body. Therefore, taking good care of your liver is essential.

We always mention that “you are what you eat”. If you want to boost your liver health, what you consume daily is really important. According to an article of The Star Online from the archive of the Department of Occupational Safety and Health, Ministry of Human Resources, Malaysia [1], it is recommended to avoid excessive consumption of fats and carbohydrates as they can cause fat deposits in the liver. Eating smaller meals is advisable as they are easier to digest and less of a burden to the liver. Furthermore, it is important to avoid alcohol and refrain from indulging in recreational drugs.

According to an article from Johns Hopkins Medicine [2], getting vaccinated, practicing safe sex, and washing your hands before eating are encouraged as preventive measures against hepatitis A, B and C, which can potentially damage your liver.

Let’s practice healthy lifestyle behaviours now to prevent liver diseases!
